Cost
South Africa Concert Land Tour: double occupancy $3,238/person, single occupancy $4,088/person (minimum 60 participants). Includes a $100/person payment toward the NHFC scholarship fund. Does not include international flights.
Optional Extension Tour (Victoria Falls / Chobe Game Lodge, air & land): double occupancy $2,385/person, single occupancy $2,785 (minimum 25 participants). Includes flights Cape Town–Victoria Falls and Kasane–Johannesburg.
NHFC did its best to match single travelers wishing to share a room with a roommate.
Enrollment & Payment
$500 deposit plus enrollment form to reserve a space on the main tour; an additional $500 deposit for the optional extension. Second installment of $1,500 due January 15, 2024. Balance due 90 days prior to departure (April 5, 2024). Deposits were non-refundable after January 15, 2024; all other payments non-refundable after their due date. Trip and travel insurance was recommended, including a suggested policy through Allianz Travel Insurance.
Land Tour Cost Inclusions: 11 nights accommodations in tourist-class hotels with private facilities; domestic flight Johannesburg–George; air-conditioned motorcoach throughout; complete sightseeing program with admissions; daily breakfast, lunches and dinners as stated on the itinerary; music, rehearsals and concert arrangements; national and local tour guides and Plymouth Travel Tours directors; prepaid gratuities for drivers and guides.
Not Included: international flights, passport and visa fees, meals/activities not on the itinerary, personal expenses, travel and health insurance.
Financial Assistance
NHFC offered a limited number of scholarships to defray costs for singers who otherwise might not be able to participate.
Health & Travel Documentation
Participants were asked to be prepared for considerable walking, at times over hilly or uneven surfaces. U.S. citizens needed a passport valid at least six months after departure; no visa was required for South Africa or Botswana; a Zimbabwe visa (for the extension tour) was obtainable on arrival for about $30 USD.
Rehearsal Attendance
To maintain singer status in NHFC for the 2024 tour, attendance at the published rehearsal schedule was required, with exceptions cleared through Music Director Dr. Dan Perkins.
Responsibility
NHFC and Plymouth Travel Inc. (PTI) acted only as agents for tour members in arranging airlines, hotels, ground transportation, sightseeing and other services, and were not responsible for deficiencies on the part of those providers, or for delays/cancellations due to mechanical breakdowns, terrorism, war, or other events beyond their control.
